SEARCH FOR .ABM ACTIVITY, MAGADAN, USSR
r This report contains an analysis of two facilities in the Magadan,
USSR area reported as unidentified installations (Document Reference
Number 1). Both areas were studied for possible association with the
Soviet antiballistic missile program. They were reported in the referenced
cable as an unidentified search area at 60-27N?151-27E and an unidentified
installation with an "E" shaped building at 59-42N 151'-O4E.

I results in 'the following conclusions regarding the
reported installations:
Area 1 is a probable explosives storage center containing five
small revetted buildings. It is located just north of. the town of
Yablonovyy which is on the main highway leading northward. from Magadan
into the hinterland (Figure 2). _
Area 2, located 12 nautical miles northeast of Magadan, contains an
"E" shaped building somewhat similar in general configuration to these
-recently reported at the Sary Shagan Antimissile Test Center (Document"'
Reference Number 2).
The "E" buildings or "Radar B's" at Sary Shagan are suspected.to be
associated with ABM developmental activity. First noted under construction
at Sary Shagan in the they have not, to date, been identified
elsewhere in the USSR.
The "E" bui1:3 Mg in question at Area 2 near Magadan has been present
since at least and the area appears unchanged since that time.
Generally, the area in question appears to be an agricultural center--
similar to other small, remote centers widely scattered in the region.
Specifically, the "E" building is probably a livestock barn (Figure 3).
