1. There are now in Iasi a rifle regiment, an artillery regiment and a border guard
battalion. No Soviet troops are present.
2. In Tulcea there are now a rifle regiment, a marine infantry battalion and a
border guard company. No Saviet Droops were observed.
3. In the center of the oil area at Ploe~ti there is the headquarters of a motorized
rifle division. Tha units under it are at various points in the oilfields. In
Plae~ti there are a motorized rifle regiment, a motorized artillery regiment, a
motorized AAA regiment, and an air observation central. The last is of the strength
o? a regimental command. P Soviet liaison staff is attached.
~4. There 1s a Rumanian rifle regirent at Piatra.
5. The staff and two battalions o? a rifle regiment are in Roman.
6. A rifle regiment is at Constan~a.
7. At Tar3u -Frwnos there is a communications battalion, the men and officers being
quartered in private houses. It was said that the unit would remain only for
the period of the fall maneuvers.
8. There is a rifle battalion at golticeni.~in].
9. Anew rifle battalion has arrived at Mangalia. The harbor and its attached
installations are in 'Soviet k~iands .
10. Anew airfield was completed at Leveselu during the summer of 1953? It was taken
over by~the Soviets dho installed a squadron of MIG-15s, 60 to 65 planes.
