Central Intelligence Agency Mr. John Marcum Assistant Director for Energy and Natural Resources Executive Office of the President Office of Science and Technology Policy Washington, D.C. 20500 24 May 1982 This is to invite your participation with other Washington- community-policy and intelligence officials in a three-day conference ED 11-13 August 1982, on nuclear security anproliferation-related issues with emphasis a) on the policies of nuclear supplier/weapon states and b) developments in the Near East and South Asia. The conference will provide the opportunity for policy people to concentrate attention on what is being done on the intelligence side, how well, and changes that might be made. We will be trying to build a common understanding of the main issues in planning policy, conducting assessments and directing collection activities. Policy officials mostly at the level of assistant secretary and below as well as representatives from the collection and production elements of the Intelligence Community will be invited to attend the conference (copies of the invitation list and the tentative conference agenda are enclosed). Background materials and discussion papers will be furnished upon arrival at the conference. clearances will be re- quired of all participants. Transportation, meals, and accommodations will be provided. Please call as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, 25 June 1982, to con irm your participation and to make arrangements for transportation to and from the conference.
