MEMORANDUM FOR: Mr. Allen W. Dulles
THROUGH : Mr.
FROM : Director of Training
STATINTL
Please accept our apologies for the delay in sending you the enclosed
correspondence. It had gone to the Records Depository and as you will see
is not complete. We haven't got Admiral Radford's or General Craig's
reply to you. The story, however, is that we appealed for a third slot in
the National War College academic years of 1955-56 and 1956-57 but were
turned down. We were given the third slot in 1957-58 and have had three
over since. We have, however, never received official notification that we
could count on three slots annually. It would be a great help to us if we could
plan for a minimum of three slots annually at the War College.
I hesitate to ask for more than three slots at this time because with
other demands on our senior personnel and participation in the National
Academy of Foreign Affairs hanging over our heads, we might not be able to
fill more than three slots at the NWC with qualified people.
If sometime you could spare me a few minutes, I would like to discuss
with you the possible relationship between the above National Academy of
Foreign Affairs, presently a food dream in the White House, and its possible
relationship or dependence upon the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton. The
proposed curriculum of the NAFA would not tax the capabilities of the Woodrow
Wilson School and it certainly is within the charter of the School to provide
training for government service.
