is located approximately 3.7
nautical miles (nm) west of the Oka River in the
Sormovo district of Gorkiy, USSR, at56-19-45N
43-51-50E (Figure 1). The plant is onenm east
of the Gorkiy/Sormovo Airfield

and is served by both roads and railroads.
When first observed on hotogra-
phy of the plant con-
tained approximately 1,918,825 square feet of
floorspace. A comparison of that photography
with the most recent
I I reveals a
large amount of new construction. This con-
struction consists of two completed subassem-
bly/machine shops (items 11 and 13, Table 1
and Figure 2), two completed machine shop/
workshops (items 7 and 15), the expansion of an
older workshop (item 12), and an unidentified
building (item 5) which is still under construc-
tion. I Iconstruction was well under
way on the subassembly/machine shop (item13)

and on the machine shop/workshop (item 7), and
by these buildings had been com-
pleted. At that time the other subassembly/ma-
chine shop (item 11) and the machine shop/work-
shop (item 15) were in the early stages of con-
struction. The machine shop/workshop (item 15)

(item 5) were evident ir land apparent-
ly both buildings will be completed in the near fu-
ture. The present floorspace in the plant is ap-
proximately 2,871,825 square feet, including that
space provided by buildings presently under con-
struction.
Gorkiy/Sormovo Airfield serves as a test
and flyaway field for the plant. The airfield has
an east-northeast/west-southwest concrete run-
way measuring about 6,600 by 250 feet, a taxi-
way with four crossovers which parallels the
entire length of the runway, and parking and as-
sembly aprons. The field is connected to the
plant by a concrete taxiway. Repair facilities
are also located at the field. Aircraft observed
