AIRFRAME PLANT NO 31, TBILISI, USSR

the southeast section of Tbilisi, USSR, on the
north bank of the Kura River (Figure 1). The
plant is served by both road and rail. A com-
bination road/taxiway connects the plant with
Tbilisi/Soganlug Airfield

the test and flyaway field for the plant, approx-
imately 2 nautical miles to the southwest. The
plant area is surrounded by 10,200 linear feet
of fence or wall, probably masonry. There are
7,500 linear feet of rail spurs and 12,300 linear
feet of hard-surface road with an average width
of 35 feet within the plant area. These figures
are considered to be approximate. Figures 2, 3,
and 4 illustrate the plant area in

associated with Figure 4 gives descriptions and
dimensions of major buildings; item numbers are
keyed to this table.
Airframe Plant No 31, originally located in
Taganrog, was dismantled and moved to Tbilisi
where it was combined with an aircraft repair
plant (Plant No 448) which had been located
there since Q The combined plants received
the designation Plant No 31, which has been re-
tained to the present time. It was estimated in
that Airframe Plant No 31 contained a roof
area of 1.2 million square feet. 1/ Since C

Plant expansion during the period of

istration/engineering building (item 5), one of
the storage buildings (item 23), a second ad-
ministration/engineering building (item 2), and
3 of the support buildings (item 26). The forge/

ing (item 24), and a final assembly building
(item 15). Ground scarring for the final as-
sembly building had been apparent in

airframe plant, which was interrupted by the con-
struction of the runway extension, is now con-
nected to the airfield by aprepared natural-sur-
face area (Figure 4). From the plant area to the

airfield the road/taxiway measures 25

the airfield are approximately 777,000 square
feet of concrete taxiways and parking aprons.
