BURMESE PREMIER PLANS STATEMENT ON CHINESE NATIONALISTS
The American Ambassador in Rangoon reports today that
the Burmese Premier is shortly to make a public statement
on the problem of Chinese Nationalist troops in Burma. The
Premier told the British Ambassador he intends to promise
to raise the issue in the UN General Assembly.
The Premier's contemplated action, the Embassy reports,
was forced by public alarm over recent Nationalist depreda-
tions, internal Communist propaganda over these depredations
and threats by pro-Communists in Parliament to open a debate
on the issue.
The Burmese Foreign-Minister told the Americas Ambas~a-
dor on 24 February that the Premier was considering such a
public statement and might include a commitment to appeal to
the UN. On 2? February, a press report from Hong Kong stated
that the "Burmese Government" is preparing a statement os the
Nationalists to be made Monday, 2 March.
