This memorandum is in response to the above.neferenced requirement calling for an anlysis of the. arsenals at Nan-king, including current level of production and expansion since 25X1 C 2. Analysis of of Nan-king revealed that there is only one of thatplant which can be identified as arnals. The main plan, Nan-ching Arsenal, Factory #60 (see enclosure CTA/PID/IB-P-715/63) is located approximately 500 yards southeast of the south gate of the city. Within the confines of the plant there are facilities which appear to be capable of manufacturing ballistic weapons up to and including artillery. These facilities are: Two forge and foundrys, twelve machine shops, eight assembly buildings, three probable ammunition storage buildings, possible shell casing manufacturing building, possible ammunition loading area, possible propellant loading - building, numerous warehouses and miscellaneous support buildings, two possible research laboratory buildings, a steam plant, a firing range, and three administration buildings. .25X1A This factory. appears to be very.active as evidenced by personnel seen on almost every road in the plant area, trucks on the plant service roads and in the motor pool parking area, and a possible artillery piece (122= howitzer) in an open storage area. The plant is rail served. Expansion.could not be determined due to lack of comparitive photographic coverage 3. Probable small arms plant, (see enclosure CIA/PID/IB-P-72+/63) probably a branch of the arsenal described above, is located approximately 700 yards west Approved For Release Fes: ...~~ 03JI: 'A.
