This memorandum is in response to your requirement dated 31 October 1963 requesting a comparison and description of the radar sites at Linfen, San Yuan and Shen Yang, China, and a confirmation of the sites at Kucheng and Li shui . a. Linfen, China (36-O2N 111-30E) The radar found at Linfen is the best example of what is believed to be the MOON CONE radar. The characteristic tri tYPe mast l boom and SCR-270-type trailer are very ~ct~ Mattress- type on 25X1C Mission II TID/NPIC measured the mast at approximately Ii high 25 with a heavy 50 to 55 foot boom. Associated with the radar is a double roofed building about 50 by 30 feet which probably serves as a control building. (Enclosed is a 7x enlargement of the site.) b. Shen Yang, China (la-l7N 123-17E) The radar found at Shen Yang also has the same characteristics as the one at Linfen. It also has a double roofed building, approximately the same size as the one at Linfen. TID/NPIC measured the mast to be 40 feet high with 50 foot boom. (Enclosed is 7x enlargement of the site.) c. San Yuan, China (3J--4iN 108-58E) The radar at San Yuan, although seen on poor quality photography, also appears to have the MOON CONE characteristics. Accurate measurements were difficult to obtain, but the dimensions are comparable to those found at other sites and it is believed to be a MOON CONE. The building associated with the site is a single roof building and smaller than those found at the Linfen and Shen Yang sites. (Enclosed is a 7x enlargement of the site.) 5-115/ 9 SECRET 25X1A Subject: Photographic Analysis of Radars at Linfen, San Yuan, Shen Yang, Lishui and Kucheng, China WEB 70/64 d. Lishui, China (28-28N 119-57E) The radar at Lishui appears to be a MOON CONE radar. Measurements equate to those of known MOON CONE radars. The two buildings nearest the radar set appear to be the control buildings. (Enclosed is a 7x enlargement.) e. Kucheng f37-30N 116-07E) This radar could not be confirmed. 3. The photo analyst on this project is on I Ishould you have any further this project. 4. This project is considered to be complete.
