This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disgeminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center lPla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

A military installation covering approxi-
mately 150 acres is located in the southern
part of Khanlar, 11 kilometers (km) south of
the center of Kirovabad (Figure 1).
The military installation contains an ad-
ministration/barracks area with 7 barracks/
administration buildings, 2 administration build-
ings, and 13 other buildings, 89 small depend-
ents/officers quarters, a probable hospital head-
quarters sector, a storage
buildings, and 3 motor vehicle /equipment main-
tenance areas (Figures 2 and 3). One of the
motor vehicle areas has probable POL storage
enclosed by an earth revetment. The installa-
tion contains approximately 12 long lowboy
trailers and 140 other vehicles on the
KEYHOLE missions covered this area.

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
A rail spur which passes adjacent and to
the east of the installation ends at an industrial

site 2 km from town.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains 89 small quarters, prob-
ably for dependents and officers.
Area D2 contains 7 multistory barracks/ad-
ministration buildings, 6 storage buildings, and
7 support buildings.
Area D3 contains 4- multistory administra-
tion buildings. This is a probable hospital or
headquarters area for the installation.
General Storage Area
Area E contains 4 storage buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains two 140- by 60-foot ve-
hicle maintenance buildings, two 210- by 35-
foot equipment maintenance/storage buildings,
one 150- by 50-foot equipment maintenance/
storage building, and 1 support building. Two
storage buildings surrounded by an earth wall
are probably used for POL storage. This area
contains a roximately 35 vehicles on Mission 25X1 D
Area J2 contains one 140- by 35-foot motor
vehicle maintenance /storage building. This area
contains approximately 12 long lowboy trailers
and approximately 70 other vehicles on Mission 25X1 D
Area- J3 contains one 200- by 50-foot vehicle
maintenance-/storage building, and 2 support
buildings. This area contains a roximately 35
-vehicles on 25X1 D
Area K 1 is- an oval exercise track.
Area K2 is an athletic field.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is an 800- by 50-foot small-arms
firing range. The range has walls on both
sides and a earth bank behind the targets. A
support. building is located behind the firing
line.
