LONG, ASSOCIATE COUNSEL Honorable William Casey Director of Central Intelligence Washington, D.C. 20505 Dear Mr. Casey: On behalf of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I would like to invite you to participate in hearings before the Subcommittee on Program and Budget Authorization. The attached schedule provides for consideration of the FY 83 intelligence and intelligence-related budget requests. This schedule has been planned within a busy congressional schedule. I hope that we will be able to hold changes to a minimum. The schedule has been annotated to indicate whether you or the Secretary of Defense holds primary responsibility for the subject indicated and you are invited to send such representatives as you deem appropriate. Wherever possible, specific issues of special Subcommittee interest will be provided prior to each hearing to assist program managers in structuring their presentations. A similar letter containing this information has also been sent to the Secretary of Defense. All hearings and briefings will be held in Room H-405 of the Capitol. The Subcommittee will begin its proceedings by considering a motion to hear the testimony in executive session. Committee rules require that all prepared or written statements be submitted at least 72 hours in advance of the appearance of a witness. Time constraints may require witnesses to present their prepared statements in a summarized form. A transcript will be made of all hearings. Any questions regarding this request may be directed to Mr. James Bush at 225-7690. I would appreciate identification of action officers for each hearing to Mr. Bush as soon as they are appointed.
