This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground 1! orce and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DlA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed. by t11e NPIC Photogr. aphis Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic hltelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Plc (1>IA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1P Lc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and Letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles aild letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (~) storage areas, (P) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (II) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,

A military barracks area is located approx-
imately 3.5 kilometers (km) north-northwest of
the center of Kirovabad, and 4.2 km southeast of
Kirovabad Airfield (Figure 1).
The area occupies approximately 75 acres
(Figure 2) and contains 8 large possible quarters,
36 small possible quarters, 2 vehicle storage
sheds, a U-shaped probable administration
building, and a large multistory probable bar-
racks. Other buildings include twoprobableve-
hicle maintenance buildings, 2 possible vehicle
supply buildings, 3 general storage buildings, 5
possible support buildings, and 3 unidentified
buildings . 39 wheeled vehicles
were observed in the area. Two possible com-

munications vans were also observed just west
of the barracks/quarters area. Just north of the
barracks area is a small explosives storage area
containing 3 revetted storage buildings.
A rectangular area containing 6 buildings
adjoins the south wall of the barracks area. The
6 buildings include 4 possible vehicle storage
buildings, a possible vehicle repair building, and
a multistory probable administration building.
No vehicles were observed in this area on Mis-
sions
The area was covered by. KEYHOLE mis-
sions from and
showed no significant changes.
Railroad Service
The Kirovabad-Akstafa double-track rail
line passes 2, km northwest of the barracks area.
Road Service
The area is served by extensions of the city
street system.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains 36 small possible quarters
(these buildings appear to be joined to the main
area by a wall which separates the installation
from surrounding areas), 8 largepossiblequar-
ters, one U-shaped administration building, and
a multistoried barracks. Area D2 contains a
multistory probable administration building.
General Storage Area
Area E contains 3 storage buildings.
Ammunition Storage Area
Area F contains 3 revetted storage build-
ings, two 120 by 50 feet and one 90 by 50 feet.
This area is 1,800 feet north of the main in-
stallation and is protected by probable double
fencing and a firebreak.
Other Buildings
Area H1 contains 2 possible vehicle supply
and 5 possible support buildings.
Area H2 contains 3 unidentified buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains 2 vehicle storage build-
ings, one 235 by 50 feet and one 180 by 50 feet.
Area J2 contains 2 probable vehicle main-
tenance buildings, one 100 by 30 feet and one 65
by 50 feet, and a 950- by 45-foot parade ground/
motor park.
Area J3 contains four 110- by 35-foot pos-
sible vehicle storage buildings and one 110- by
35-foot vehicle maintenance building. Except for
2 possible communications vans, all vehicles ob-
served on were in the parade
ground/motor park area.
