Present Program in FDD on Southeast Asia Foreign Documents Division is presently issuing the reports listed below on Southeast Asia. Except for the Bagong Buhay, all reports are in The FDD Summary series. All reports, except the Bagong Buhay are prepared as summaries, extracts, or abstracts of newspapers, periodicals, and books. A schedule of reports issued up to 20 April 1955 follows the discussion of the reports. a. This is an unclassified report providing current political, economic, sociological, and biographic information on the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Free Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. In addition, military information is given for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam when available. Availability of photographs is indicated. OVERSEAS CHINESE - Semiquarterly Report This is a semiquarterly report presenting political, sociological, and economic information under selected categories and by areas. These areas are: Indonesia, Malaya, Burma, Thailand, Indochina, and the Philippines. The People's Republic of China and Taiwan are included whenever appropriate. The information in presented in the form of extracts, abstracts, and compact suomvaries. The selected categories of information generally cover: Communist and anti-Communist activities; Travel between China and Southeast Asia; Overseas Chinese policies of the Chinese Communist and DU governments; Political, organizational., educational and economic activities of the Overseas Chinese; Chinese press and publications; Manpower; Biographies and graphics; Attitudes and reactions to local governments e. This confidential. "Noforn" monthly report covers significant political, economic sociological, and biographic data on Indonesia. Other developments of current interest which have been reported concern the proposed general elections, dissident activity and geographic data. The report is divided into seven parts, the first of which includes information pertaining to Indonesia as a whole and other parts cover the areas of Java, Sumatra,. Borneo, the CM#. , the Moluccas, and the Lesser Sundae, in that order. f. This bi-weekly report is classified Confidential?Noforn. It mainly covers news and opinions relative to the Philippines' official and unofficial attitude in international, matters and domestic news and opinions relative to Philippines-US relations. Other significant items are infrequently reported. The only source in this report is the Manila daily, Bagong Buhay. The report is an 0041. Proposed Changes in FDD Program on Southeast Asia Changes required by Operational Considerations: 1. I will lose all of its capability in the Burmese language on 2 July 1955. The regular report on Burma (lc) will be discontinued. 2. In order to maintain the lowest possible classification of reports, The Monthly Indonesian report (le) will be put out in two separate reportss 1) Monthly Information Report on Indonesia, For Official Use Only and 2) Background Report on Indonesia,. Confidential, NOFORN. b. Proposed Changes 1. That the semi-quarterly report on Thailand (1b) and the Monthly report on Indochina (la) be combined into a single Monthly Information Report. on Continental Southeast Asia. A Burma section will be added to this report. when it becomes operationally feasible. a. No other changes in the program are proposed at this time.
