1. On 26 February 1952 YUAN Yeh-lieh fit), commander of the Eas China Navy;
Soviet Major Mi-ti-mei-fu (,4- 'LrTJ3 *)3 and KUO Hua-jo ( >I ), commander
of the Shanghai-Woosung Garrison Headquarters, inspected Woosung Fortress. Chinese
Communist army engineers were installing radar equipment and five shore batteries
in an area near Woosung Fortress; the installation work was to be completed by the
end of May.

2. II Comment. The original 87 Division was stationed in the Yungan (117-18,
2 area., where it was converted into a unit under the Fukien Military
District in the summer of 1951. The new 87 Division was activated from two
garrison regiments commanded by CH"EN Ting (~,); ) of the Fuan Military Sub-
District Command. These regiments moved from Fuan to southern Fukien, and
their garrison duties were taken over by the 814 Division, 28 Army.

1. In late February 1952 the Chinese Communists were moving replacement and training
divisions from north Kwangtung to the Canton-Kowloon railroad area. A tank unit
of the 15 Army Group moved to Nant?ou (113?56, 22-31)0
2. Three battalions of an artillery regiment of the 15 Army Group were stationed on
the south Kwangtung coast at Taya Bay and Tapeng Bay.
3. Chinese Communist troops on both banks of the Pearl River Estuary and on islands
in the estuary were exchanging posts frequently.
In December 1951 the Central and South China Military Area Supply and Service.
Manchuria and. Macao were stored in these warehouses., which were declared restricted
areas by the Chinese Communists. During February flour, rubber, pitch, cement and
phosphorus from Hong Kong were stored in these warehouses.
