Carnivale is a yearly holiday that starts two weeks before Ash Wednesday and ends on Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday). It has been banned at certain times in Venice's history, but after 1979 it became a growing tourist attraction. Many of the masks worn at Carnavale are considered works of art.
