African fish eagles at Lake Naivasha. The African fish eagle catches fish with a graceful, shallow plunge to the water’s surface, but will also eat birds, reptiles, and carrion. The eagle tosses its head backwards while making a piercing call that is one of the most distinctive bird sounds of Africa. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County, which lies northwest of Nairobi and is part of the Great Rift Valley.
