US Marines visit the historically important World War II B-29 base at North Field, Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, on 17 November 2015. During their visit the Marines learned about Operations Silverplate and Centerboard, code names for the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Marines were able to view the location of the two atomic bomb loading pits necessary to load the oversized nuclear bombs aboard the B-29’s. Photo courtesy of US Marine Corps / Gunnery Sgt.
