The USCGC Healy in St. John’s Bay, Newfoundland on 4 June 2000. The US Coast Guard Cutter Healy, is the first polar capable US Coast Guard icebreaker built since the 1970’s, and is the largest vessel in the US Coast Guard fleet at 128 m (420 ft) and 16,000 tons. The USCGC Healy is the newest and most technologically advanced icebreaker in the Coast Guard fleet. Launched in 1998, the icebreaker employs the power to break 1.4 m (4.5 ft) of ice at three knots continuously — or up to 2.4 m (8 ft) by ramming.
