Arctic Ocean

The US Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20) cuts a channel through the multi-year pack ice and snow as the Healy transits the Arctic Ocean to the North Pole, 27 September 2022. This is the third time the icebreaker has traveled to the North Pole since its commissioning in 1999. The USCGC Healy is the newest and most technologically advanced icebreaker in the Coast Guard fleet. Launched in 1998, the icebreaker employs the power to break 1.4 m (4.5 ft) of ice at three knots continuously — or up to 2.4 m (8 ft) by ramming.
