Giant Tiger Prawn (Penaeus monodon), also known as Black Tiger Shrimp, Asian Tiger Shrimp; weight – 320 g (0.7 lb); length – 30 cm (1 ft). Mature tiger shrimp caught in the wild may be distinguished from native American penaeid shrimp by their overall rusty brown color and the distinctive black and white banding across their back and on their tail. There is also a rarely seen color variant of the species with a conspicuous, wide, reddish-orange stripe along its back. Females are larger than males of same age. Image courtesy of USGS.
