SUBBECT : Projected temporary duty of approximately thirty days in the
Zone of the Interior.
TO : Strategic Services Officer, China Theater
1. With regard to conversations held during your recent visit to this
base concerning temporary duty in the Zone of the Interior for'a period of
approximately thirty days, the impression gained by the undersigned is as
follows: the undersigned agree to continue in the service of the organiza-
tion for one year following expiration of previous commitments (i.e.,l July
1946) if a period of approximately thirty days can be spent in the United
States and if requests included in an accompanying letter, concerning job
descriptions, can receive consideration. You kindly agreed at that time to
recommend such action and inform this base about 20 June of known results.
As mentioned at that time, it is hoped that air transportation from Shang-
hai to the United States (and return) will be available, in order that ac-
tivities of this base need not be impeded by unnecessary delays.
2. Acting,on your suggestion, the undersigned?haae drawn lots to de-
termine precedence in event of the materialization of the projected plan.
The lucky pair are John A. Bottorff and Qudntin C. Johnson.
3. The parents of the undersigned John. A. Bottorff will celebrate their
silver wedding anniversary on 29 June; he would greatly appreciate permis-
sion to depart as soon as possible, if arrangements can be made.
