Central Intelligence Agency
8 August 2007
The Honorable Silvestre Reyes
Chairman
Permanent Select Committee
on Intelligence
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
This letter is to keep you fully and currently informed
about Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) grant from the
National Museum of the USAF of an A-12 OXCART surveillance
aircraft to be displayed at the George Bush Center for
Intelligence (GBCI).
The A-12, now decommissioned by the Air Force, represented
both an extraordinary technical achievement and very successful
cooperative venture with the Air Force and private industry.
CIA's display of one of only nine remaining A-12s will serve as
an historical example of the innovation and creativity of our
organization. Additionally, two stars will be displayed at the
site to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice of two CIA pilots.
The current schedule has the A-12 arriving at CIA beginning
on 9 August 2007 for assembly and display during our 60"'
Anniversary in September. Once the installation site is
finished, the aircraft will be placed in its final location on
the northeast side of the GBCI.
Originals of this letter are being sent to the Ranking
Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence,
Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on
Intelligence, the Chairman of the House Appropriations
Subcommittee on Defense, and the Chairman of the Senate
Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.
The Honorable Silvestre Reyes
