Upon presentation of the final report on the NIKE X
Threat Analysis Study to the Secretary of Defense in December,
Mr. McNamara expressed his thanks for "an excellent job on
an extraordinarily fine study. "
As chairman of the Threat Analysis Review Board I desire
to extend my most sincere appreciation to you for your intelligent
and consistent participation on the Review Board. The successful
completion of the Threat Analysis Study is a true reflection of the
competent overall guidance provided by the members and the
organizations from which they came. I am well aware of the time
that participation on the Board has taken from your primary re-
sponsibilities. However, considering the possible impact that the
study may have on the future defense posture of our country, I
am confident that your contribution was well worth the effort.
Since the final report has been presented to Mr. McNamara,
I do not plan to reconvene the members in the near future. How-
ever, as the NIKE X program progresses, if the need arises to
reassemble the Board, I hope that I may feel free to call upon you
again for assistance.
