SECRET (b)(6) (b)(3) APPROVED FOR RELEASED DATE: 10-Dec-2008 I have attached for your personal acknowledgment a Commendation from the Director of Central Intelligence which will be made a part of your official personnel file. You contributed in a very real way to the effort for which NPIC is being commended and I want to add my congratulations to those expressed by the Director. ARTHUR C. LUNDAHL Director SET CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WASHINGTON 25. D. C. MEMORANDUM FOR. Director, National Photographic Interpretation Center 1. As Director of Central Intelligence and on behalf of the entire intelligence community as well as the United States Govern- ment, I wish to commend you and the personnel under your command for the outstanding work you have been performing, especially during the past four months of the Cuban buildup. 2. Your analysis and interpretation of the Cuban photography and the manner in which you reported your findings to the President, his principal policy advisers, most particularly the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense, and the entire intelligence com- munity have been of the highest order. 3. I have full knowledge of the tremendous pressures and long working hours with which NPIC was confronted. I regret that the anonymity required of a professional intelligence agency such as yours prevents public acknowledgment of NPIC accomplishments. You and your people should take great pride in your accomplishments as well as in your ability to perform them without public acclaim.
