The National Security Archive Gelman Library, Suite 701 2130 H Street NW Washington, D.C. 20037 APPROVED FOR RELEASE^ DATE: 12-May-2010 This is a final response to your 11 May 2009 letter, received in the office of the Information and Privacy Coordinator on the same date, requesting records under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) pertaining to "the meetings and/or conferences organized by Latin America's leftist political leaders during the 1990's, such as Vicente Fox and Jorge Castaneda Gutman from Mexico, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva from Brizil, Ricardo Lagos from Chile, various leaders from Central America, as well as member's [sic] from organizations `Grupo San Angel' in Mexico." The Agency cannot accept your FOIA request, in its current form, because it would require the Agency to perform an unreasonably burdensome search. The FOIA requires requesters to "reasonably describe" the information they seek so that professional employees familiar with the subject matter can locate responsive information with a reasonable amount of effort. Because of the breadth and lack of specificity of your request, and the way in which the Agency configures its records systems, the Agency cannot conduct a reasonable search for information responsive to your request. We encourage you to refine the scope of your request (such as including a time frame for, and narrower, more specific descriptions of, the information you seek) to enable the Agency to conduct a reasonable search for responsive information. Sincerely, C3'~~ 17L . Delores M. Nelson Information and Privacy Coordinator
