This acknowledges receipt of your undated letter, received in the office of the
Information and Privacy Coordinator on 23 June 2009, concerning your Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) request postmarked 15 April 2009 for what we interpreted as
"documentation regarding the actions of this entity [In-Q-Tel] and/or your organization
[CIA]."
Our records indicate that on 6 May 2009 we provided a response to your request
and we encouraged you to refine the scope of your request (such as including a time
frame for, and narrower, more specific descriptions of, the information you seek) to
enable the Agency to conduct a reasonable search for responsive information.
In regard to the questions posed in your undated letter, the FOIA was enacted to
provide a means for the general public to access government records. Under the
provisions of the FOIA, federal agencies are not required to answer questions.
That portion of your request for records on yourself falls under the purview of the
Privacy Act and is being handled under case .number P-2009x00616. The notarized
statement that you sent has been forwarded to the appropriate office for response.
