 Other Sudanese cabinet members have. suggested that
the conservative Arab states will withdraw their finan-
cial aid if Sudan does not alter its policies. Saudi
Arabia backed away last month from a commitment to fi-
nance the purchase by Sudan of F-5 aircraft from the US,
but so far has reaffirmed its willingness to continue
other economic assistance. If Numayri were forced to
choose between withdrawing support from Sadat or losing
Saudi aid, he probably would reluctantly abandon the
Egyptian leader.
