 Saudi Arabia - Sudan
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Sultan told
the Saudis will not fund Sudan's
purchase of F-5 aircraft from the US. Sultan indicated
that the Saudis believe Sudan's problems are primarily
economic and that the addition of F-5s to the Sudanese
Air Force would do little to resolve the country's funda-
mental problems. He said that the Saudis have just con-
cluded an economic assistance program for Sudan. Sultan
also indicated that President Numayri's support for the
Egyptian-Israeli peace agreement has led to Arab pres-
sure on Saudi Arabia not to aid Sudan.
