SUBJECT: Disposition of Wreckage

10 January 1967
1. On 9 January 1967 General Bacalis told me that
as soon as the. Investigating Board had completed its
investigation of the site of the crash that he wanted
the wreckage removed to the Area if it could be done in
a secure manner. I advised the General that I had been
in touch with the Area and they indicated-that they could
handle this matter and if necessary, could call on the
services of the Highway Patrol as well as a certain
local sheriff with whom they had worked before.
2. General Bacalis then told me that if he were
absent at the time the Investigating Board had completed
their actions that I should then comply-with the above,
and that the wreckage should be retained in one hangar
at the Area. He also indicated that he desired that we
retain whatever labels and patterns that were available.
He did not want any attempt at reconstruction at Area 51.
3. On the same day I advised) General
Bacalis' plans but cauti ned him to retain this informa-
tion between himself and and to merely start the
plans for the move. I also told him that at some time
in the future he will receive the go-ahead from Head-
uarters.
