will insist on later French adherence
to the treaty. By "current situation"
we assume he is referring to De Gaulle's
frowardness.

d. The Soviet tourist agency
in Moscow is having no luck at all
finding takers for its highly pub-
licized ten-day all-expense tour, to
Cuba via direct TU-114 flight. The
price (550 rubles) is heavily sub-
sidized, but, even to hardy Russians,
obviously not worth it.
e. Russian troops are
delighted when they can leave Cuba
and critical reports from those who
have gone home probably have got
around fast.

mineral exploration work(
a. We have discovered an eighth
surface to air missile site in main-
land China. It is near Shihmen air-
field about 160 miles southwest of
Peiping.
b. Of the seven other sites,
three are in the area of the Shuang-
chengtzu missile test range
(two apparently for training), three
are in the Peiping area, and one is
near Sian. The latter is the only
one known to be fully operational.

A. West Germany Adenauer's foreign policy state-
ment to the Bundestag yesterday, by playing the
Franco-German pact in low key and emphasizing
Germany's adherence to the Western alliance,
leaves Erhard little, if any, room for maneuver.
Indonesia-Philippines The Philippine-Indonesian
marriage of convenience to block Malaysia may be
sealed by a nonaggression pact.
C. Sino-Indian Border Foreign Affairs Secretary R. K.
Nehru leaves next week for a two-week tour of East
? European capitals to explain the Indian point of
view, particularly, we gather, on the Colombo pro-
posals. He will also spend a day in Cairo.
