Approved for Release: 2019/06/04 C00292179 - MEMORANDUM FOR: SUBJECT: REFERENCE: Inspector General 20 December 1973 -, .714 7ali Howard Hunt's Claim that He Spied on Goldwater in the 1964 Election Campaign DDO Memorandum for IG, Same Subject, Dated 20 December 1973 1. I talked to Elizabeth McIntosh on the phone. She said that she and a secretary in Hunt's office were sent by Hunt to the Goldwater Headquarters to pick up news releases and that is the only surveillance she can imagine was carried out on Goldwater. Please note that this story ties in very closely with the Washington Star News story of December 20th which says that aunt told investigators that he had "dispatched a cOuple of people to the Goldwater Headquarters to see what was going on", and that "the operatives, one of whom may have been a woman, obtained advance campaign schedules, news releases and other information". I told Mrs. McIntosh someone from your office might wish to contact her. 2. Tom Schreyer says that he was totally unaware of any such operation or orders to carry out same. cc: OLC OGC William E.
