Walters Deputy Director Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. Dear Mr. Walters: I was very impressed with your statement before the Senaue Select Committee. I know, in part, what you went thru as I two years ago testified. before Senator Ervin.s Constitutional Rights Committee on Privacy and Surveillance. My appearance was requested as the result of my book THE DEATH OF PRIVACY published by Random House. Presently, I am doing research on THE PSYCHOLOGICAL RESIDUE OF WATERGATE. In particular, I would appreciate a letter from you in which you might describe some of your philoso- phical points of view regarding the impact of your test- imony and the hearings in general. For everyone involved, these sessions have certainly altered ones style of-living. I leave the content of such a letter in your hands and would find it useful to learn of your thinking and feelings as these hearings directly affected you. In advance, please accept my thanks for your cooperation in this research undertaking. Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01474430 Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01474430 411 Professor Jerry M. Rosenberg Baruch College 17 Lexington Avenue New York, New York 10010 Dear Professor Rosenberg: Thank you for your letter of 28 January soliciting my comments on the Watergate affair. I do not believe that it would be appropriate for me to comment on any dimension of the Watergate affair at this time. Various aspects of the matter are still under active review by committees of the Congress and by the courts, and I consider that in the light of this fact it would be presumptuous of me to comment further at this time. I wish I could be of more help. Thank you for your kind remarks concerning my appearance. With every good wish. EA/DDCl/KWagner:blb Distribution: Orig. - addee 1 - DDCI - ER Sincerely, Vernon A.
