SELECT COMMITTEE ON
PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES
(PURSUANT TO S. RES. 60, SOD CONGRESS)
WASHINGTON. D.C. 20510
April 4, 1974
Honorable William E. Colby, Director
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington, D. C. 20505
Dear Director Colby:
Please be advised that yesterday the Select Committee authorized the
Committee staff to make a formal request of the CIA to declassify
certain CIA-related materials and documents. The materials referred
to are the Baker Report to the Committee, which is not classified but
has been treated as such, the related Executive Session transcripts
and the CIA documents in the possession of George Murphy of the Joint
Committee on Atomic Energy.
The Committee realizes that any matters of legitimate national security
and matters of operational intelligence sources or methods should re-
mdatin classified. The Committee anticipates no problem with regard
tcSouch matters.
We believe that the appropriate step to take initially would be for the
Ceel:rimittee staff to meet with representatives of the CIA to discuss
splbiific items which the CIA may contend should remain classified.
Wr wpulcia:ppreciate a response as soon as possible.
incerely yours,
6.mue I. Dash
