U-2 Support for Weather Modification Experiments

18 January 1973; Subject: Navy Request for
IDEALIST Support (BYE 1326-73)
1. Representatives from Project Headquarters visited the Naval
Weapons Center, China Lake, on 6 February to discuss the request for
U-2 support. The necessary clearances for the personnel contacted had
not been received so the type aircraft and equipment to be used could not
be discussed. However, through discussion Project Headquarters
representatives were able to determine what equipment would be necessary
to satisfy the Navy request.
2. Request the Navy be advised that this Headquarters can support
their request on a non interference basis with present commitments and
higher priority requirements should they arise. Agency support of this
project will be known as Project Operational arrange-
ments will be made between Project Headquarters and Navy China Lake
when clearances are received.
