Director's Meeting
Thursday, 6 March 1952
PRESENT: General Smith, Messrs. Dulles, Wisner, Wolf, Becker, Hedaen, Earman.
The Director:
a. Referred to Tracy Barnes' request for CIA expenditures on research and
Mt. Becker explained that similar requests had been made to other governmental
agencies in order that the sta2f of the Board might form some ideas concerning
its own research problems. In this connection, the Director discussed certain
possible personnel changes and functions of the staff of PSB.
b. Discussed Discussed Gen. Grow's diary and noted that he had neither seen it nor
the book pertaining thereto, published in East Germany. In this connection,
the Director stated that someone had "fallen down" in not getting this inlarmation
to him. Mr. Wisner and Mr. Earman said that to the best of their knowledge a
copy of the diary had not been received. Mt. Wisner also said that, in fact.
his people had been attempting to get a copy for the past three weeks and had
not met with any success. The Director then called Gen. Bolling who stated he
"thought" that a copy of the diary in question had been sent to us and if not
he would bring one over. Mt. Dulles noted that he hoped our people on foreign
_service had been instructed not to maintain diaries similar to that of Gen. Grow.
