The Director: a. Referred to Tracy Barnes' request for CIA expenditures on research and Mt. Becker explained that similar requests had been made to other governmental agencies in order that the sta2f of the Board might form some ideas concerning its own research problems. In this connection, the Director discussed certain possible personnel changes and functions of the staff of PSB. b. Discussed Discussed Gen. Grow's diary and noted that he had neither seen it nor the book pertaining thereto, published in East Germany. In this connection, the Director stated that someone had "fallen down" in not getting this inlarmation to him. Mr. Wisner and Mr. Earman said that to the best of their knowledge a copy of the diary had not been received. Mt. Wisner also said that, in fact. his people had been attempting to get a copy for the past three weeks and had not met with any success. The Director then called Gen. Bolling who stated he "thought" that a copy of the diary in question had been sent to us and if not he would bring one over. Mt. Dulles noted that he hoped our people on foreign _service had been instructed not to maintain diaries similar to that of Gen. In connection with the above the Director stated that there must be a number of SO reports (including containing information of interest (b)(1) to him and directed such information be extracted from these reports and (b)(3) furnished him. -Dtroz-� Mr. Dulles: a. Noted that he had talked to Gen. Donovan who was going to Korea in the near future and that Donovan had agreed to COMB by and see us before he makes this trip. He also noted that in the event he did not see him in Washington he would, in all probability, see him in New York. b. Referred to a meeting with Sherman Ewing, who is working with us on the World's Veterans Organization, and stated that he, Mr. Wisner and Mr. Kwirtg would like to discuss this whole problem with the Director. In connection with this project, the Director stated that he was still looking for someone to examine this and, in fact, all of our projects with a "jaundice eye" particularly from the viewpoint of the end product.
