I am sure that several of us here would like to have your impressions of Africa and I shall be in touch with you shortly about this. Retinger sent me an invitation to the Bilderberg Con- ference but without prior consultation with me since, as you suggest, I find it impossible to be away from the United States at the time the Conference meets. I have passed on word of this directly to Prince Bernhard. One of these days I should like very much to attend one of these Conferences. Sincerely, SSW Allen W. Mr. Approved for Release: 2022/04/12 C03148629 Approved for Release: 2022/04/12 C03148629 uolvIDENTIAL Mr. Dulles: As you recall, you wanted to have Joe Johnson come down for a debriefing session sometime after Labor Day. For your information, I am attaching a copy of the previous letter that you received from Mr. Johnson and a copy of your reply thereto. We received a telephone call from Mr. Johnson's office concerning an appointment for Mr. Johnson sometime during next Tuesday or Wednesday (8 and 9 September). I talked to Mr. Johnson's secretary about this and explained to her that you were out of the city and would not be back until sometime Tuesday morning and also that you had a very busy schedule for both of these dates, but that one of your deputy directors would be glad to handle this meeting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, should this be convenient with Mr. Johnson. His office called me back and advised that this arrangement would be satisfactory with Mr. Johnson. You have an appointment with at 11 a.m. on Wednesday but perhaps you might be able to speak to Mr. Johnson for a few minutes. We have advised Bob Amory of Mr. Johnson's visit on Wednesday and Bob will handle the debriefing session and also determine who will be present. 3 Sept. NEW YORK CABLE ADDRESS INTERPAX OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT 31 August 1959 Dear Allen: Thanks for your letter of the 24th. I am now thinking of coming to Washington Tuesday morning, the 8th, getting there about 11 and staying until around noon on the 9th. So far I have no engagements, but I do plan to see Joe Satterthwaite and some of his colleagues while I am there. I also have to see George Lodge in the Labor Department. Could you set whatever time is most convenient for you and have someone in your office give me a ring so that I can proceed with other appointments. Your comments about Retingrer's invitation confirm what I had suspected to be the case. I was particularly interested that you would like to attend one of the meetings some time, and hope we can arrange that for next year. Looking forward to seeing you soon, I am, with best regards, The Hon. Allen W. Dulles Central Intelligence Agency Washington 25, D. C. (F,YErMTitr Sincerely yours, Joseph E.
