Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06145309 Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 15 January 2014 Mr. Jason Leopold Reference: F-2014-00553 Dear Mr. Leopold: This is a final response to your 26 December 2013 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, received in the office of the Information and Privacy Coordinator on 6 January 2014, for any records constituting, discussing, or mentioning the Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) internal study of its detention and interrogation program. We cannot accept your FOIA request in its current form because it would require the Agency to perform an unreasonably burdensome search. The FOIA requires requesters to "reasonably describe" the information they seek so that professional employees familiar with the subject matter can locate responsive information with a reasonable amount of effort. Commonly this equates to a requirement that the documents must be locatable through the indexing of our various systems. Extremely broad or vague requests or requests requiring research do not satisfy this requirement. Therefore, we must decline to process such requests. Sincerely, Michele Meeks Information and Privacy Coordinator Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06145309 Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06145309 (b)(3) (b)(6) IMS/IRRG/PIP1I 8 January 2014 Distribution: Orig - Adse 1 - PIPD/F-2014-00553 CAN (Too Broad) (b)(3) (b)(6) FOIA 00553 Leopold CAN Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06145309
