The open hearing will take place in room SH-216 of the Hart Senate Office Building on Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. We have also invited John Ashcroft, Attorney General of the Department of Justice, members of the public, and representatives from the media. The Committee is particularly interested in your assessment of the effectiveness, or lack of effectiveness, of current criminal, administrative and civil remedies which are applicable to instances of unauthorized disclosure of classified information. In addition, the Committee asks that you address the damage to national security caused by such unauthorized disclosures. We request that you provide a copy of your testimony, in both electronic and written format, to the Committee no later than August 31, 2001. The testimony should be as complete and detailed as you deem necessary to explore fully the subject matter as discussed above. Your oral testimony at the hearing should be limited to five minutes.
