(U) SPS, GRS Officers Rescue Driver from Burning Car, Save Life
(U) On Tuesday, 4 November, five security officers saved a motorists life with their quick response to a vehicle accident
outside the George Washington Parkway Gate to the Headquarters compound At 4 01 p m , a driver heading northbound
on the George Washington Parkway merged onto the onramp to the Headquarters compound for unknown reasons As the
car traveled around the bend, the left-side rues struck the curb of grassy median between the two lanes, causing the
driver to lose control of the vehicle and increase speed The vehicle swerved to the right, lumped another lane, and
crashed into the tree line on the north side of the George Washington Parkway Gate The car hit a large tree, which fell,
and the impact of the crash caused an engine fire

the crash, stopped to assist, grabbing an extra fire exanguisher from the trunk of his car. At first two of the officers
attempted to exanguish the fire, but were unable to do so because the downed tree prevented them from geeing close
enough for the exanguishers to be effecave
(U) Realizing the fire was growing, the officers knew they had to get the driver out of the vehicle "The doors were locked
and we were unable to break the windows," said Luckily, after about several minutes, the driver, who had been
knocked unconscious following the crash, regained consciousness and unlocked the driver side door "I was moments

(U) The SPS officers, who were concerned about the possibility of other passengers in the vehicle, repeatedly asked the
man if he was the only person in the vehicle "He didn't know where he was, but he kept saying Bo' when we asked him if
there were other passengers in the vehicle," one SPS officer said Confident that the driver was alone, the officers then
carried the driver a safe distance from the fire, which was growing larger. About 20 seconds after the officers had
evacuated the driver from the immediate area, the fire engulfed the vehicle's cabin
