SUBJECT: Kalayaan International (ML)
1. The following is a translation of an article which
appeared in the Philippine Sun on 28 July 1971 entitled
"Activities of KM Reaching USA". (CommentriVeahataang
Makabayan (KM) is a radical leftist Philippine student group.)

Activities of the KM are reaching San Francisco
througlisa well-edited Filipino radical newspaper
callecEdKal.aypan (freedom) International." This
will create controversy among Filipino residents
in the U.S. The newspaper is said to be the inter-
national edition of "Kalayaan", the KM publica-
tion which first appeared-oh 12 June 1971, the
73rd anniversary of the declaration of independ-
ence of the Philippifies. It has 20 pages.
The "Kalayaan International" is published
by an "editorial collective" of Filipino youths
in San Francisco. Its numerous articles picture
the revolutionary condition in the Philippines,
including the 1 May massacre of students and
laborers. Also printed are activities of
Filipino-American youths including their parti-
cipation in anti-war marches. In,-addition, it
includes articles on the economic and social
injustices the Filipinos in the US are subjected
to.
2. :the organizer
of the first two issues of Kalayaan International was
one EOGONZALEZ, who was. in Berkeley, California, as of the
second week of August 1971. He has reportedly also been
involved in a Philippine radical group (ijame unknown) in
Berkeley.
