On the afternoon of 19 August 1972 I received a � telephone call from Mr. Howard Hunt which was merely to � inform me that he had heard from an old friend, Morton B. Jackson, who had been subpoenaed to appear before the Grand 'i-Jury in Alexandria, Virginia, and was concerned about his prior association with the Agency. I asked Mr. Hunt to tell Mr. Jackson to get directly in touch with me. This was the sum total of my conversation with Mr. Hunt. 2, Mr. Jackson called rue shortly thereafter and said he had been subpoenaed for 10:30 a. rn. , Wednesday, 23 August 1972. He said his connection with us had been in the early days. , I asked if he was referring to OPC, and he said "Yes." He said he had been employed in an unofficial capacity and had signed � secrecy agreements, which he wanted to comply with. I said � I would check out the matter and be back in touch with him. 3. Mr. Jackson called me on Monday afternoon, 21 August, to say that he had been successful in postponing his appearance before the Grand Jury to Wednesday, 30 August, and would probably arrive in Washington on Tuesday, 29 August: I said I was now aware of the facts of his employment and asked him if the company with which he had been associated was still in existence. He said he� had no positive indication but felt such a question was possible. I said that the FBI was aware that he had been associated with this Agency and presumably would make its information avail- Able to the U. S. District Attorney but that this information had been given to the FBI on a classified basis and presumably the classification would be honored. 4. I suggested to Mr. Jackson that if he'were asked About his association with the Agency.)14Y.sikaly that there had been such an association in the early 1950s, and if there were further questions about the specifics he should try to refer the inquiry to this office. Mr. Jackson said he thought this would work. I further said that if .he were specifically questioned about the company with which he was associated he should not deny it or refuse to answer. He said he had lost touch with it since that time but since it was always under financed a felt it had probably gone out of bud. ness. 5.
