The French firm
has been chosen by Nuclebras to provide the tech-
nology and basic engineering for a 500-metric-ton-per-
year UF6 conversion plant. .The plant, which is hoped to
be operational by 1983, is the final part of the complete
nuclear fuel cycle that Brazil envisioned obtaining, the
balance of which will be supplied by West Germany.

Uranium ore concentrate (yellowcake) is processed
in a UF6 conversion plant to produce uranium in a form
suitable for a uranium enrichment operation. In Brazil's
case, the UF6 would be introduced into a Becker jet-
nozzle enrichment plant to produce reactor-grade uranium.
The UF6 plant, along with asmall commercial enrichment
plant and a fuel fabrication plant, will form one large
fuel-cycle complex near the town of Resende in Brazil.
