SUBJECT Request for Postponement of
Jury Duty
1. of the Soviet and East European
Forces Division, OSR, has received a summons to
report for jury duty on 18 April 1973 at the
Arlington County Circuit Court. is respon- 25X1A
sible for intelligence analysis supporting Agency
participation in planning for negotiation of a
Mutual and Balanced Force Reduction treaty with the
Warsaw Pact. Initial substantive meetings between
NATO and the Warsaw Pact are planned for September.
Preparations for these meetings are underway now.
2. is responsible for organizing the
work of a new y ormed team of analysts to work on
some vital aspects of the problem. His absence for
four weeks at this time would seriously handicap our
efforts.
3. To permit OSR to carry out its responsibilities 25X1A
in this important effort it is requested that you
assist in persuading the court to postpone
jury duty until after September 1973.
4. I am only requesting post onement and not
exemption from jury duty. Bot Wand I
consider jury duty to be a mora as legal
obligation of every responsible citizen.
