Van Gorder Administrative Director Advanced Management Program Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration Boston,, Massachusetts 02163 Dear Dean Van Gorder, The Director of Central Intelligence has approved the STATINTL nomination of Deputy Director of the Office of Specia rojects, to attend the Advanced Management STATINTL Program of the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administra- tion. selection for the Program from a group of very well qualified CIA executives is a source of consider- able pleasure and gratification to me. STATINTL STATINTL additional course work at Georgetown University toward a law degree. has been employed by the CIA for his . entire working career -- since 1951 -- with the exception of a six-month period of military service in 1957. STATINTL entire association with this Agency has been c aracterized by rare ability and unusual drive. I have worked intimately with for about one STATINTL and a half years and my considered evaluation is that he is truly an outstanding employee. He has a keen sense of management responsibility, excellent. judgment, and has demonstrated that he possesses the capability to successfully and effectively control the expenditure of significant amounts of funds and to control the activities of technical personnel. He has an amazing ability to separate the important from the. unimportant and to summarize a given situation into workable terms. He is forceful in following through on any required actions and is not diverted from attaining the desired results. His attitude ` is always a positive one, and he has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, by any media, both to his subordinates and supervisors. This attribute has been most helpful with the controversial and sticky issues with which we. have learned to live. Despite his aggressive pursuit of these vital Agency objectives, he has achieved these objectives while preserving for himself and the CIA the respect so necessary for satisfaction of our long-range commitments and working relationships. He is firm, judicious, fair, and while demanding,.achieves results with good will and complete acceptance. is a dedicated employee with tremendous capacity for wor . He is personally very presentable and he is dynamic and aggressive, possessing that vitality which is so essential in pushing Agency programs to fruition.
