NPIC/R-277/64 This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center 1Plc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report. Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips, (D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am- munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields, (L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/ assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train- ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified facilities or tracking activity. LOCATION OF AMMUNITION STORAGE AREA LESNAYA NORTH. - 2 - Approved For Release 2006/01/17 002200010036-5 TOP SECRET Approved For RRf?ase 92T117 - 02200010036-5 NPIC/R-277/64 The Ammunition Storage Area Lesnaya North is located 11 kilometers (km) north- east of Lesnaya (52-59N 025-46E) and one km south of the Brest-Baranovichi rail line (Fig- ure 1). The installation is not rail served. A secondary road connects the depot with the Brest-Baranovichi highway and the Baranovi- chi Barracks and Maneuver Area Lesnaya (TA- 1) which is located 4 km north. A storage area near Paulinovo is located 5 km west. The installation covers approximately 70 acres and contains seven probable explosives DESCRIPTION storage buildings enclosed by a fence and a perimeter firebreak. The area was covered by photography and frlfissions between 1 -1 one small building has been added and vege- tation appears t o be growing in the firebreak area. Lack of d efined track a ctivity on the ac- cess road and w ithin the inst allation suggests possible abandonment as an ammunition stor- age area. OF INSTALLATION Railroad Service There is no direct rail service to the area although the double-track Brest-Baranovichi rail line is located one km north. A small rail yard along the main track immediately north of the installation may provide service for the depot. Road Service A secondary access road connects the installation to the all-weather Baranovichi- Brest highway. Ammunition Storage Area The ammunition storage area (Figure 3) contains six 40 by 20 foot buildings and one 75 by 40 foot building. The area is secured and enclosed by a firebreak. The buildings are unrevetted and dispersed at a minimum of 110 feet.
