This report is one in a. series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Plc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Shchuchin Army Barracks is located on the
north edge of Shchuchin (53-36N 024-44E) and
2 kilometers (km) south of the Lida-Grodno
highway (Figure 1). The installation is not
rail served; however, the Lida-Volkovysk rail
line passes 6 km to the south. Secondary roads
provide access to the Lida-Grodno highway.
There are direct road connections to the
Shchuchin Airfield 2 km to the southeast, in-
dicating a part of the installation probably sup-
ports the airfield.
The installation covers approximately 375
acres and contains three administration build-
ings, 20 barracks, 13 storage buildings, 46
support buildings, 51 officer and dependent quar-
ters and three vehicle parks containing six ve-
hicle sheds and eight maintenance buildings
(Figures 2 and 3).
The installation also includes two athletic
fields. Training facilities include a probable
wheeled-vehicle driver training course.

Railroad Service
The Lida-Grodno rail line passes 6 km
south.
Road Service
Probable all-weather secondary roads pro-
vide access to the Lida-Grodno highway and to
the Shchuchin Airfield.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl (Figure 3) contains two multi-
story U-shaped administration buildings, six
multistory barracks (three U-shaped) and two
support buildings.
Area D2 contains one multistory adminis-
tration building, 10 multistory barracks and
10 support buildings.
Area D3 contains four multistory barracks
and eight support buildings.
Track activity, which has remained the same
since indicates the probable
occupancy of all buildings.
General Storage Areas
Area El is secured and contains one stor-
age building--under construction in

Area E2
contains 12 storage buildings. The level of track
activity has remained the same in both areas
since
Other Buildings
Area Hl contains 26 support buildings.
Area H2 contains 32 officer and dependent
quarters (six added since
Area H3 contains 19 officer and dependent
quarters.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 is secured and contains a 400- by
170-foot vehicle park, three vehicle sheds, 250
by 30 feet, 220 by 30 feet and 150 by 30 feet, and
four small maintenance/storage buildings.
Area J2 is secured and contains three
vehicle sheds, one 450 by 30 feet, one 200 by
30 feet, and one 140 by 30 feet, one 140- by 30-
foot maintenance building and a 450- by 220-foot
vehicle park.
Area J3 contains three 90- by 30-foot main-
tenance buildings and a secured 250- by 250-
foot vehicle park with four rows of small objects.
No change in the level of track activity was noted.
