TREATMENT OF RHEUMATISM -- Swiat i Zycie, No 17, 23 Apr 50
According to the State Rheumatological Institute, at least three percent
of the population, or approximately 720,000 persons in Poland, suffer' from
rheumatism. Of this number at least 578,000 should be receiving treatment in
health resorts. The total would include 274,000 bed-ridden patients (treated
over 2-3 months periods) and 300,000 ambulatory cases (treated over 3-4 month
periods).
At present, there are eight health resorts equipped for rheumatic treat-
ment located in Busko, Ciechocinek, Cieplice, Polczyn, Ladek, Swieradow., Dusz-
niki, Iwonicz; and two children?s health resorts, one in Rymanow and the other
in Rabka. Health resorts at Czerniawa, Dlugopole, Jastrzebie, Przerzeczyn,
and Swoszowice, all have departments for rheumatic treatments.
During the Six-Year Plan, to help overcome rheumatism, it will be neces-
sary to increase the number of beds in sanatoriums at state health resorts to
8,000, where 35,000 patients could receive treatments of 2-3 months duration
yearly. The number of ambulatory patients should be increased to 145,000.
