1. 'Debaltsevo (N )4.8-211 E 38-26) in the Donets area has a marshalling yard 1,200 -
1,500 meters long. ne hump,.11( shunting tracks three inter-
locki, plants,'one coaling station, and four water supply points for locomo-
tives this installation was a modern one
according to Soviet standards.
2. At one of the interlocking plants, a railroad official giving
directions through a microphone, and several loudspeakers in the yard
area. ,Shunting locomo e e a aren equipped with makeshift antennae
and radio telephones. the locomotive engineers followed
the directions given from the interlocking plant. Signal installations at the
marshalling yard are also up-to-date. Signal lights are arranged in a manner
similar to that on the Hamburg interurban railroad system.
3. On the evening of 19 September 1953, there were 150 to 180 freight cars in the
marshalling yard, most of them gondola cars loaded with coal and scrap.
4. The Alma7ia - Debaltsevo and Brest-Litovsk - Frankfurt/Oder railroad line sec-
tions are double-track, while all other sections of the line are single-

trains operating between Frankfurt Oder and Brest-Litovsk are assigned only
two crews as against three previously. Each member of the crew is on duty 12
hours and off duty 12 hours.. After three missions the personnel are given a

on w c con ro s the interlocking system.
Comment- Almazia is believed to be Almatrnaya (N 48-31, E 38-35), which is
on the. upyansk - Debaltsevo line, 2.7km north of Debaltsevo.
Comment-- According to available information,there are other sections
of this route which are double track.
