At one of the interlocking plants, a railroad official giving directions through a microphone, and several loudspeakers in the yard area. ,Shunting locomo e e a aren equipped with makeshift antennae and radio telephones. the locomotive engineers followed the directions given from the interlocking plant. Signal installations at the marshalling yard are also up-to-date. Signal lights are arranged in a manner similar to that on the Hamburg interurban railroad system. 3. On the evening of 19 September 1953, there were 150 to 180 freight cars in the marshalling yard, most of them gondola cars loaded with coal and scrap. 4.
