Railroad Bridge in Plovdiv
1. The railroad bridge over the Maritsa River in Plovdiv is of metal"construction,
about 100 meters long, eds meters wide, set on 5-6 concrete piles, with a distance
of about 3.0 meters betWeon ' the pylons. It bears a single track line and has ser-
vice paths along the sides.

2. The'"Putproekt Orgaflizatsiya" (Road Planning Organization) is responsible for the
Bulgarian road netkork and for planning road construction. It is subordinate to
the General Road Administration, which is at the ministerial level. The headquarters
are located-at No. 18 Rasarik Street in Sofia. The director of the organization is
Radev (fnu), an engineer.
3.? In 1952-1953, the organization was carrying out repair work on various arteries,
as follows:
a. Sofia-Burgas road, for a distance of approximately 400 kilometers: Widening
the road:Tay from s even to eight meters, leveling the cobblestone and gravel
surfaces of the roads with a 16-ton compressor roller;
be Sofia-Varna road: Improving the condition of the surface;
c. Sofia-Plovdiv road: Improving the condition of the surface; and
d. Sofia-Ruse roads Improving the condition of the surface; this road is 6-7
meters wide.

None of these roads are paved with cobblestones for their entire length. In some
places the roads have a natural surface which has been hardened by rolling with a
16-ton roller.
