REMARKS
In mid-April 1955, a local resident from the -'ahlwinkel area
stated that the surface of ',Iahlwinkel airfield had become hard
enough for heavy aircraft to land and take off there. Some
twin-engined aircraft, allegedly, repeatedly landed at the field.
Temporary buildings to serve as quarters were also said to be
under construction at the airfield. Bauunion Stendal was said to
have received an order from the construction headquarters at
Potsdam for the erection of these buildinf;c. The f .eld was scheduled
to be occupied by the VPL on 1 ;,:ay 19550 and a small advance detail
of the VPL had, allegedly, already arrived.
Comment, This is the first report on the use of 1,;ahlwinkel
airfield wAich may have been in operation durinj the 1954 fall
maneuvers. The information contained lit the present report cannot
be verified.
